  Introduction

  The Department of Acupuncture and Tuina at Shenzhen Second People’s Hospital was established in 1986. In 2018, it became the only traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) acupuncture specialty approved among general hospitals in Shenzhen, recognized as the “Shenzhen Acupuncture Specialty Department”. It serves as the Deputy Director Unit for the Shenzhen Acupuncture Medical Quality Control Center, the Shenzhen TCM Rehabilitation Quality Control Center, and the Shenzhen TCM Tuina Quality Control Center. The department also leads the Shenzhen Acupuncture Society’s Health Preservation Committee. In 2023, the department received the hospital’s “Medical Quality and Safety Award.”

  As part of Shenzhen’s “Three Renowned Projects”, the department is affiliated with Professor Liang Fanrong’s Clinical Research Team on Acupuncture Meridian Effects from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This team is a key discipline in acupuncture and tuina under the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, led by a National Qihuang Project Chief Scientist and part of the National Famous TCM Expert Inheritance Studio Program. Core members from the team provide weekly clinical consultations, rounds, research guidance, and teaching at the department. Additionally, the department serves as the responsible unit for the National Famous TCM Expert Inheritance Studio, tasked with the academic inheritance, promotion, and application of renowned TCM practices.
